Transcriber

Terms of Service

The short version of what you can expect from Transcriber, and what it expects from you.

Last updated: 19 August 2026

What this service does

Transcriber turns audio and video into text, and can translate that text or run it through an AI prompt. You can point it at a link or upload a file. Transcription and translation are done by machines, so treat the output as a good draft rather than a certified record — check anything that matters before relying on it.

Your account

You need an account to save anything. Keep control of the email address you sign in with, since anyone who can read that inbox can request a magic link and get into your account. Tell us if you think someone else has access.

What you may not do

  • Submit media you have no right to use. If you do not own it and it is not yours to copy, do not run it through here.
  • Use it to transcribe recordings of people made without their knowledge where the law requires their consent.
  • Break the service on purpose — automated bulk submissions, attempts to get around limits, or anything aimed at the infrastructure rather than the product.
  • Use it for anything illegal, or to produce material that harms other people.

Accounts doing any of the above can be suspended without notice. That is a judgement call we would rather never have to make.

Your content stays yours

You keep every right you had in the media you submit and in the transcripts produced from it. We claim no ownership over them and use them only to run the service for you — never to train models, and never as material for anything else.

Availability and limits

This is a small independent project offered free of charge. It may be slow, briefly unavailable, or changed without much warning, and there is no uptime guarantee behind it. Uploads are currently capped at 4 MB; longer media is better handled by giving us a link.

Keep your own copy of anything you would be upset to lose. We take reasonable care, but a free service is not a backup.

Liability, plainly

The service is provided as-is. We are not liable for losses arising from using it, from an inaccurate transcription, or from it being unavailable when you needed it. Nothing here removes rights you have under consumer law that cannot be signed away.

Ending it

You can stop using the service whenever you like and ask us to delete your account. We may discontinue the service, and if that happens we will give whatever notice we reasonably can so you can export anything you want to keep.

Changes

These terms can change. Meaningful changes come with a new date at the top, and continuing to use the service means you accept the current version.
