Transcriber

Privacy Policy

What Transcriber collects, who else sees it, and how to get rid of it.

What we collect

Three things, and nothing else:

  • Your account. Your name, email address and profile picture, taken from whichever sign-in you used — Google, Apple, or an emailed magic link. If you sign in with Google or Apple we also store the access tokens they issue, because that is how the session stays valid.
  • What you transcribe. The link or filename you submit, the transcript we produce, any translation of it, and any custom prompt you write. These are kept so your history page has something to show.
  • Basic usage data. A session cookie to keep you signed in, and aggregate page-performance statistics through Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights. These are not tied to your account and are not used to build a profile of you.

What we do not keep

The audio and video themselves. A file you upload, or media we fetch from a link, is written to temporary storage, converted to audio, sent for transcription, and then deleted — in the same request. Nothing is archived, and there is no bucket of anyone’s media sitting anywhere.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising. There is no advertising in this app.

Who else processes it

Running a transcription means handing your content to services that do the actual work. For that purpose only:

  • Groq — receives the extracted audio and returns the transcript.
  • Anthropic (Claude) — receives transcript text when you ask for a translation or run a custom prompt. It is reached through our own proxy, not by your browser.
  • Google and Apple — only if you use their sign-in.
  • Resend — sends magic-link sign-in emails.
  • Neon and Vercel — host the database and the app itself.

Each of these has its own privacy terms. We send them the minimum needed to do the job and nothing more.

Deleting things

Every transcription has a delete button on your History page. Deleting one removes it and anything derived from it — translations, AI results — permanently and immediately.

Signing out revokes that session on the server. Sessions expire on their own after 90 days of inactivity.

If you want your whole account and everything in it removed, email us and we will do it.

Security, honestly stated

Traffic is encrypted in transit and the database is not publicly reachable. That said, this is a small independent project rather than an enterprise service with a compliance department — so please use your judgement about what you feed into it, and treat anything genuinely sensitive accordingly.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or who we send it to, the date at the top changes with it.
